On the trail of a natural cannabinoid: What is CBD and what are its effects?

A purely natural jungle affair: What is CBD?

In the greenhouse, we are greeted by green Cannabis sativa plants that have far more benefits than meets the eye. The leaves seem to wave hello to us, and the cannabis flowers with drops of resin glisten breathtakingly in the sun. The well-known hemp scent wafts throughout the greenhouse.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is found in highest concentration in the top third of the cannabis plant, i.e. in the buds and upper leaves. After harvesting, CBD is extracted from this part of the plant. There is no secret or trick to it, you just have to use one of the extraction methods. The CBD obtained by CO2 extraction is particularly high quality.

We now know that CBD is a natural compound. So it's time to leave the greenhouse and go on a journey to understand the endocannabinoid system to better understand how CBD works in our bodies.

How does CBD establish calm and harmony?

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) resembles an intricate network that spreads throughout the body. The ECS is involved in many physiological functions such as regulating sleep, pain, mood, immunity and metabolism. This mechanism creates bridges and connections, much like the lianas that wind their way up into the treetops, connecting the entire forest into one harmonious paradise.

The benefits of CBD come from its interaction with the endocannabinoid system. When CBD enters our system, it begins to "interact" with the endocannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2). This communication can help to calm nerve flow and provide balance in our bodies. Unlike THC, CBD does not act directly on CB1 and CB2 receptors, nor does it have psychoactive effects.

CBD has a low affinity for CB1 receptors (found mainly in the central nervous system, in the brain) and CB2 receptors (found in the immune system and peripheral tissues). Cannabidiol appears to affect the ECS indirectly by slowing down the FAAH enzyme, which is responsible for breaking down anandamide in the body. This increases the level of anandamide in the body and allows it to act on CB1 and CB2 receptors.

In addition to CB1 and CB2 receptors, other receptors have been discovered with which cannabidiol can interact. These include the 5-HT1A serotonin receptor, which is important in the regulation of mood and anxiety. This interaction may be the answer to why CBD has the potential to alleviate anxiety and depression.

Research into the relationship between CBD, anandamide and the endocannabinoid system is ongoing, so hopefully we will soon have a clearer answer as to how anandamide works in our bodies, what benefits it may have and how we can influence it to extract positive effects on our bodies.

Oasis of well-being: what are the effects of CBD?

As we begin to explore the therapeutic potential of CBD, we may think we've found a haven - a place of rest and harmony. Cannabidiol can arguably help with a range of symptoms and illnesses, both mental and physical.

CBD offers promising therapeutic properties:

  • relaxation and mental health care
  • pain and inflammation relief
  • sleep without struggle
  • help with skin problems
  • immunity support and prevention of neurological diseases
  • relieve pain and improve joint function
  • support muscle recovery after exercise

Cannabinoids can affect each adventurer differently, depending on their health condition, body proportions, immune system, metabolism, the effectiveness of the product and other aspects.

Side effects of CBD

Most cannabidiol users do not experience side effects when taking cannabidiol-containing products. However, in the tropical forest, there can sometimes be a few hiccups, and this is similar to CBD, where rarely side effects can occur, such as:

  • dry mouth
  • changes in appetite
  • diarrhea
  • low blood pressure with higher doses of CBD
  • drowsiness

Particularly when exceeding the normal dosage or at the beginning of an adventure with CBD, side effects or interactions with conventional medicinal products may occur. The severity and nature of these effects can vary from explorer to explorer. Keep in mind that reactions to CBD are individual, and if you have health problems or are taking medication, consult a professional before taking it.

Refreshment in the desert: CBD products

What do you think, have we discovered a jungle treasure that can bring well-being? There's no better way to find out than by finding out for yourself. And you don't have to worry! As your trusted guide, we won't let you down. All our products meet safety and legislative standards and contain no undesirable substances (heavy metals, pesticides or solvents).

Products may vary in CBD concentration and other cannabinoid content, smell, taste and method of use. If the products also contain other cannabinoids, an 'additive effect' may occur when they are used together. This occurs when CBD and other cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids work in perfect synergy, which can amplify their effects.

CBD-containing products you can explore:

End of trip

Today we had the opportunity to learn about the second most abundant cannabinoid in the cannabis plant - CBD. The discovery was not exotic, but the encounter with this cannabinoid led us to a well-trodden path that leads to an oasis of well-being. Experience for yourself how CBD can calm and relax the body and enjoy your trip to an island of harmony.
